Dental Services Offered at Dorval Dental Clinic

Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which includes the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.
Our goal is to help you to minimize the risk of emergency treatment. This is why we commit a generous amont of time designing a Lifetime Treatment Plan that will help you to offset the possibility of unforseen pain or tooth breakage. A knocked out tooth or bitten tongue can cause panic in any parent, but quick thinking and staying calm are the best ways to approach such common dental emergencies and prevent additional unnecessary damage and costly dental restoration. This includes taking measures such as application of cold compresses to reduce swelling, and of course, contacting our office as soon as possible.
It is estimated that 90 million people in North America have breathing related illnesses leading to snoring and sleep apnea. Snoring is often thought of by many as a strictly social problem, yet it is  a symptom of a  serious health risk.  It occurs when the tongue partially blocks the airway, whereas in  sleep apnea, the airway is completely obstructed , and no air passes through to the lungs. Both situations are harmful since the patient is deprived of oxygen, which in turn taxes all the internal organs. Patients who suffer from snoring/sleep apnea have  an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes due to high blood pressure which results from lack of oxygen.

We also provide root canal treatments as part of the dental services offered at our dental clinic in Montreal. Root canals are tiny passageways that branch off from beneath the top of the tooth, coursing their way vertically downward, until they reach the tip of the root. All teeth have between one to  four ( or sometimes more ) canals.

Many tooth problems involve infections that spread to the pulp, which is the inner chamber of the tooth containing blood vessels, nerves and other tissues. When the infection becomes worse, it can begin affecting the roots. A traumatic injury to a tooth can also compromise the pulp, leading to similar problems.

Dental implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored in the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, dental implants can be used to attach dentures.

At our practice in Montreal, Dr. Chatila provides traditional orthodontic treatments in line with alternative options such as Invisalign. Using traditional braces, we can correct the most severe alignment issues, including crooked teeth, overcrowded teeth, underbites, overbites, missing teeth, etc.

Crooked teeth are not just an aesthetic concern. Straight teeth improve the functionality of your dentition, the health of your gums and decrease the risk of tooth decay while improving the appearance of your smile. Well aligned teeth also ensure the proper chewing of food which in turns prevents various health problems.

Teeth that are badly stained, shaped or crooked may be improved by a veneer placed on the surface of the affected teeth.

Veneers are thin porcelain shells  cemented over the front of your teeth to change their colour or shape. Veneers are used on teeth with uneven surfaces or that are chipped, discoloured, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked. Little or no anesthesia is needed in most cases. In addition, veneers have a longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding ( white filling ) and are highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking....

In our early human ancestors, the third molars, more commonly known as the wisdom teeth, were essential for chewing and breaking down a much rougher diet than we have today. However, as the years have passed, the wisdom teeth have become unnecessary and jaws have become smaller, leaving little room for them to erupt and causing them to become impacted.

If wisdom teeth are impacted, they must be surgically removed. This is a simple, straightforward procedure conducted in the dentist’s office that often only requires the use of local anesthesia.

The teeth may get all of the glory, but the gums are just as important in determining the quality of a smile’s appearance. Gums that are overly prominent, uneven or asymmetrical detract from a smile, even when the patient has perfectly straight teeth. Receeding  gums can be unattractive, too.

Cosmetic gum grafting is a good solution for patients whose gums have a negative effect on their smiles. In this procedure, the dentist can take tissue from the roof of a patient’s mouth and place that tissue in a location that extends or evens out the gumline or replaces gum tissue that has receded.

As with a bone graft, tissue for a gum graft can also be obtained from a donor site or an artificial material that mimics periodontal tissue can also be used.
